Year 9

The aims of the Year 9 Program are to:

  • Provide a wide range of experiences for each student.
  • Motivate and encourage students to pursue and develop their skills and interests
  • Provide a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs of all students.
  • Provide for the varying levels of personal development of the individual students.

Semester 1

Year 9 students enter our 1:1 Laptop program and study subjects based in a core/elective system. The core subjects that are covered are English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Physical Education and Health. There is a choice of two electives for semester one from the following areas, Art, Food - Bakery, Music, Textiles, Visual Communication and Wood.  

Semester 2 - Alternative, Project based learning Program

In semester two of 2012 our year 9 students will enter our ‘Numurkah 9’ program where they will study only 3 compulsory cores subjects to complete - English, Maths and Science. Students will have an opportunity to choose one elective from Art, Food - Techno Food, PE - Hit and Run or PE - Team Games. For the remaining 14 timetabled sessions of the week students will be involved in a learning program which will encompass

  • authentic project based learning
  • vocational learning opportunities
  • careers and pathways planning

Term 4 – Year 9 Leadership School

We have once again been successful in our application for a NSC team to attend the Year 9 Leadership School in 2012. This will be the sixth NSC team to experience this outstanding program which is only available to students from Government schools within Victoria. Five students will spend term 4 next year at the Gnurad Gundidj Campus near Colac.
