Yr9 First Aid Training

This week our Year 9 students, competed accredited First Aid training. All students involved showed great enthusiasm, maintaining a high level of engagement throughout the 1 day course. Students learnt that by performing simple procedures and following certain guidelines, it may be possible for them to save lives by giving basic treatment until professional medical help can arrive. Yr9_First_Aid_001

In light of an emergency situation a quick and effective response is essential, especially considering the many working farms where a majority of our sudents live. The knowledge and skills learnt will enable participants to sustain life, reduce pain and minimise the consequences of injury and illness until professional help arrives. The course content included the legal aspects of providing First Aid, aspects of infection control, how to assess a First Aid scenario including the aims of First Aid and the importance of communication. Also covered was the management of an unconscious breathing casualty or non-breathing casualty as well as the recognition and management of choking, shock, wounds, bleeding and medical emergencies such as chest pain, asthma and anaphylaxis.

The day was extremely successful due to the strengths of the course as well as the commitment shown by students. Well done to all involved!
